A full day of back to back classes and workshops on Gothic themes to raise money for the charity Magic Breakfast

Romancing the Gothic is running an online charity event to support Magic Breakfast, which provides school breakfasts for children who need them.

The event is a day of online classes and workshops with academics, experts and writers. You can come in and out as often or as infrequently as you like through the day.

You can choose your ticket price at £5, £10, £20 or £50 for the day. We want to make sure everyone can come so support at the level you can :) At Magic Breakfast £5 buys approx. a month of breakfasts and support for one child. As of 2025, £14 could give 50 children breakfast for a day. £42 could get a whole class breakfast for a week!

The programme is as follows and will be updated to as the final classes are confirmed. Sessions will be recorded and sent out so you won't miss anything whatever time zone you're in! Interactive sessions i.e. interactive workshops may not be recorded. You can join us from anywhere in the world.

4pm - Dan Pietersen - 'Follow Me, and I Will be Thy Guide: A Day-Trip to Dante's Inferno'

5pm - Johannes Evans - 'Buttoned Up Tight: Gothic Themes in Costume Design'

6pm - Raquel Souza - 'Latin Final Girls'

7pm - Liz Oakley-Brown - 'Hamet: A Tudor Gothic Text?'

8pm - B. Rae Grosz - Writing Workshop - 'Limnal Spaces; or, Lakes and How To Haunt Them'

9 pm - Paul Riddell - Meat-Eating Greenery: An Overview of Carnivorous Plants
