The Story of a Collection: Curators Tour

Join our curator to discover the story of The Burton’s collection in a tour around ‘Hubert Coop and Friends: A Legacy of Art and Influence'

Find out more about the artworks and objects on display, the fascinating relationships between them and how each piece is a significant part of the bigger story that makes The Burton, and Bideford, what it is today.

Starting with the work of founding artist Hubert Coop and his contemporaries, the exhibition brings together rarely seen objects and artworks from The Burton’s stores including pieces by Bertram Prance, Charles Sims, Gillian Ayres, James Ravilious, Lucie Rie, Mary Stella Edwards, Michael Cardew and Paul Lewin - as well as our newest acquisition, Mayflower, All Flowers (2020) by internationally-renowned artist Yinka Shonibare CBE RA.*

This event accompanies ‘Hubert Coop and Friends: A Legacy of Art and Influence’, on until 15 March.

Tickets cancelled with less than five days’ notice are non-refundable. An Eventbrite admin fee will be automatically deducted for workshops cancelled with more than five days’ notice.

Car parking

This workshop takes place at The Burton at Bideford. We are situated on the edge of Victoria Park in Bideford, next to a Torridge District Council-owned car park where charges apply. For more details on parking in Bideford, visit the Torridge District Council website.
