FVS is a charity, a parent care led forum for parent carers of children and young people with special educational needs and/ or disability (SEND) in Surrey, from ages 0-25 and inclusive of all conditions. We provide a collective SEND family voice to agencies and providers of services to SEND families in Surrey, on needs and how these can best be planned and delivered, to improve SEND lives.

Do you want to feel more confident supporting your child with dyslexia at home? Join Family Voice Surrey and Claire Harvey, Head of Education at Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity, for an informative and practical online webinar:An Overview of Dyslexia and How to Support Learners at Home This session will help you better understand dyslexia and give you practical strategies to support your child’s learning and wellbeing. What the session will cover:<ul><li>The new definition of dyslexia</li><li>Key areas of difficulty, including:</li><li><ul><li>Weak phonological awareness</li><li>Memory difficulties</li><li>Slow processing speed</li><li>Visual difficulties</li><li>Organisation and concentration challenges</li><li>Lack of automaticity with tasks</li></ul></li><li>How to spot signs of difficulty in the classroom</li><li>The impact of dyslexia on reading, writing, spelling and numeracy</li><li>The benefits of multi-sensory teaching approaches</li><li>Practical tips to support reading, comprehension, writing and spelling</li><li>Using appropriate language and resources</li><li>Supporting and maintaining your child’s self-esteem</li></ul> There will also be time for questions and an opportunity to connect with other parents in similar situations.
