Magical places and new approaches: online writing workshops with Clare Shaw and Anna Chilvers
A series of online writing workshops exploring moors, swamps and other boggy places. We'll consider their unique ecology, fascinating folklore and haunted histories - and we'll ask ourselves - what can we learn from bogs? What do they need from us? How can that seep into our writing?
With poet Clare Shaw and novelist Anna Chilvers, you'll learn how these magical landscapes can guide you into new and exciting ways of writing - in stories, poetry and creative non-fiction.
Expect … nature writing which strays from the path, stories which explore dark waters, memoir which isn't afraid to get dirty. Expect deep peat peat and deep time, fluidity. Exect the art of listening, close observation, staying still. Expect wild places and wild writing; expect literature without borders and binaries. Expect to find meaning in moss - lots of it. Expect to embrace the uncertain, the unwanted, and much, much more.
Anna Chilvers (Bluemoose) and Clare Shaw (Bloodaxe) are popular writers and facilitators who have authored and edited 14 books between them - including novels, poetry and creative non-fiction. In 2025, they co-edited “The Book of Bogs”, featuring leading writers of ecology, nature and place.
You can book workshops on an individual basis for £25 per workshop, or, for a complete immersion in the world of the bog, you can book all eight for £125 (three workshops free!). If you book for any individual workshop, the date of the first workshop, 18 March, may show during the booking process. Don’t worry if you are booking a different date, continue with the process and you will get a ticket for your chosen date.
