Healthy Ageing as a System: Connecting Science, Policy, and Practice
Overview
About the Event
This forum looks at healthy ageing through a systems perspective. Ageing, multimorbidity, and obesity develop through interactions between biological factors, social conditions, environments, services, and policy over time. Rather than treating these issues in isolation, the workshop focuses on how prevention, early action, and support for functional health across the life course depend on how well these parts of the system work together.
Drawing on evidence from the STAGE project, the workshop explores how integrated care, community support, and effective data use influence access to services and health outcomes. It also examines how digital inclusion, stigma, mental health, and social factors interact to shape people’s experiences as they age. These interactions help explain persistent gaps in outcomes and highlight why coordinated action across sectors is essential.
The forum brings together researchers, policy specialists, and people with lived experience to examine how scientific evidence, policy decisions, and service delivery continuously influence one another. The aim is to make these connections visible and to identify points in the system where collaboration can lead to meaningful improvements in healthy ageing for people with different needs and circumstances.
