Vanbrugh Rocks: Studio Training Class (Practicing Recording)

Practical Session: following on from the introductory session, start learning the skills for recording instruments, drums and vocals.

This session is aimed at teaching the skills needed to set up microphones and record guitars, drums and other instruments, as well as an introduction to using the mixing software Reaper. This is run by Steve Burton, the Vanbrugh Rock Tutor. Please note, you do need to be a member of the University of York and signed up to the College Music Scheme to participate.

After participating in a practical session (or a few), if you are confident and know what you are doing then you can do a sign-off session, after which you can hire the Recording Studio alongside your Garage practice sessions.

Payment Requirements:

Attendees who have not already done so, are asked to purchase the full course at a cost of £20 for Garage Members and £30 for non-Garage Members: Link to Webstore

Payment entitles you to attend practical sessions, and a sign-off session up until the end of the academic year. If you do not wish to continue with the course after attending this session for the first time, you can request a partial refund.

As there are limited spaces on this course cancellation must be at least 5 working days before the session to entitle you to a full refund. If you cannot attend it is important to email college-music-scheme@york.ac.uk as soon as possible so that we can try to find a replacement. If we are successful then you could still be entitled to a refund.

Please note: this course is NOT run in association with the Department of Music and is not part of any degree course. There are no credits associated with this.

Where and When: The course is run at The Garage, which is at The Warren, just across the road from the Information Centre on Market Square. Please arrive a few minutes early at The Warren and help yourself to hot drinks and snacks while you wait for the course to start. Complimentary drinks and biscuits are available throughout the course.
