Learning to write well-crafted sketches is the best way to hone your comedy skills, because sketches are the building blocks for sitcoms, comedy dramas, clown shows and stand-up.

Even better, audiences love sketch and there are loads of opportunities to get your sketches seen online, on stage and even on broadcast radio and TV.

About the teacher

Rachel E. Thorn writes comedy for BBC Radio, including Dead Ringers, The Now Show, Breaking The News, DMs Are Open and Newsjack.

She’s collaborated with several impressionists, including Alistair McGowan. Her radio work has been longlisted by the Female Pilot Club and Funny Women Awards, and she’s been twice runner-up in the British Comedy Guide Talent Writing Awards.

Rachel tours her own sketch comedy live, including to Edinburgh Fringe and Leicester Comedy Festival. Her theatre scripts have been nominated for the Kenneth Branagh Award, the Kay Mellor Fellowship, the Painkiller Prize and the BBC's Alfred Bradley Award.

She co-created the improv shows MATES: The Improvised ‘90s Sitcom, CSI: Crime Scene Improvisation and Lying Together. They have won Best Improv Show at Edinburgh Fringe and at Leicester Comedy Festival and the Phoenix Remix Act of The Year.
