Neurodiversity Awareness Training

Neurodiversity Awareness Training

Online event
Tuesday, Mar 24 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm GMT
Overview

This workshop seeks to create awareness of the barriers that Disabled and especially Neurodivergent people face in academia and beyond.

Facilitated by Dr Claire Graf (Co-Chair of the Disabled Staff Network, Disability and Policy Researcher in STIS)

This workshop seeks to create awareness of the barriers that Disabled and especially Neurodivergent people face in academia and beyond, and teach ways to combat these barriers.

The seminar is interactive, contribution is very welcome, just attending quietly is an option, too. We will explore the basic concept of practical inclusion, the labour of inclusion and what falls under the neurodivergent umbrella. You'll learn a practical support system (the 5 T approach) that works on every Disabled person, as well as a few things you can do to respond to common problems in a neurodiverse environment.

Please note:

  • handouts will be provided after the seminar, as a lot of the learning is done cooperatively, reading text in the seminar of the slides is not required
  • trauma and trauma awareness will feature
  • there will be a 15 mins break in the middle

Intended learning outcomes:

  • basic understanding of inclusion
  • basic understanding of neurodiversity
  • realising that inclusion is easier than you might think and you're perfectly equipped to do it

If you need any adjustments to take part, please contact us.
