Join local maker Grace for an introductory taster session exploring the art of seaweed pressing.Grace will begin with a short chat about how she first started collecting and pressing seaweeds, sharing some of her favourite species along with small lessons learned from years of experimenting with colour, shape and texture.Participants will then choose from a selection of sustainably foraged seaweeds and create a pressed seaweed artwork. With simple guidance on technique and placement, you’ll learn how to thoughtfully arrange and press your chosen specimens, creating a unique piece inspired by the islands.You’ll also have a brief opportunity to explore a seaweed identification book and familiarise yourself with some of the remarkable species found along our shores.All materials and equipment during the taster session are provided. Limited slots available. This workshop is free to attend thanks to support from the Isles of Scilly Museum and Cultural Centre.For an additional £8, your fully dried pressed seaweed artwork can be posted to any UK address once it’s ready to come out of the press. Small seaweed presses will also be available to purchase, should you wish to continue pressing at home or on holiday.
