In Search of Phillis Wheatley Peters’Film Screening and Director Q&amp;A Wednesday 1st April 2026, 6-8 pm, at the University of GreenwichWe are pleased to announce a public screening and director Q&amp;A featuring Askew Production’s revelatory new documentary on the life and legacies of eighteenth-century African-American poet and abolitionist Phillis Wheatley Peters. Drawing on the ground-breaking research of American scholar Dr Cornelia Drayton, among others, the film “reimagines Phillis not only as a literary icon but as a woman who chose love, partnership and resistance against extraordinary odds.”The film screening will be followed by a Q&amp;A session between the director Leslie Askew, and respondents including playwright, historian and podcaster Bonnie Greer OBE and Dr Lab Mo, head of Film Production at the University of Greenwich.This is a free, ticketed event. The documentary is 35 minutes long and will be followed by a Q&amp;A discussion between the director and invited respondents.Please note that online tickets provide access only to the Q&amp;A session. The film screening will not be broadcast. Hosted by the Centre for Language and Heritage and Centre for Creative Futures, this event is part of the conversation series of the Institute of Inclusive Communities and Environments at the University of Greenwich.
