Active Bystander Training: sexual misconduct in the workplace

Join our online training session to gain knowledge to challenge unacceptable behaviours of sexual misconduct in the workplace.

Sexual misconduct in the workplace is rarely about a single incident, it is often sustained by silence, uncertainty, and a lack of confidence about how to intervene safely.

This interactive 2-hour training equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to act as effective active bystanders when they witness inappropriate behaviour, boundary violations, or sexual misconduct at work.

Participants will explore:

• What constitutes sexual misconduct in workplace settings
• The impact on individuals, teams, and organisational culture
• Why bystanders often remain silent (psychological and cultural barriers)
• Practical, safe intervention strategies
• The role of leadership and collective responsibility in preventing harm

Grounded in evidence-informed approaches and trauma-informed principles, this session moves beyond policy awareness and focuses on real-world application.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

• Recognise behaviours that may constitute sexual misconduct or boundary violations
• Understand the legal and organisational context
• Identify common barriers to intervention
• Apply practical bystander intervention techniques (Direct, Distract, Delegate, Delay)
• Respond to colleagues who disclose experiences safely and appropriately
• Contribute to a safer and more accountable workplace culture
