Music of War - Now and Then

This inaugural concert serves at the launch of the Pavel Kushnir Scholarship. Established by artists, musicians, and creators, this scholarship aims to support students from Russia, Ukraine and Belarus in pursuing their musical studies at leading institutions worldwide. All proceeds from our concerts will contribute to establishing these scholarships, and additional donations are warmly welcomed. Our London events are part of a wider programme of concerts across the world, including Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and Tel Aviv.

The Pavel Kushnir Scholarship

Music of War — a concert exploring how composers have responded to war and how music reflects the tragedy of these times.

Leighton House

Guests are warmly invited to arrive from 6:30 pm, when the doors open. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Leighton House Museum and enjoy the garden before the concert begins. The concert will start at 7:00 pm and will include a 30-minute interval. A welcome drink (champagne) will be served to guests upon arrival and during interval. Programme: Part I : Franz Schubert - Three Military Marches (whith Three Military Interludes by Mikhail Shilyaev) Frank Bridge - Lament Edward Tait - Ashes Beneath the Ice Gustav Holst - Four Songs for Voice and Violin Part II : Dmitri Shostakovich - Piano Sonata No.2, Alegretto Igor Vdovin - Sonata for Piano and Violin Alexey Kurbatov - Sonata for Violin and Piano no.5 Special reading by Roma Liberov: Excerpts from the Birobidzhan Diary of Pavel Kushnir. About the Pavel Kushnir ScholarshipThis concert is organised by the Pavel Kushnir Scholarship. Bronze Medal winner at Vianna da Motta International Piano Competition in Lisbon. Sasha Grynyuk, piano — First prize winner at the Grieg and BNDES International Piano Competitions. Featured as a ‘Rising Star’ by both BBC Music Magazine and International Piano Magazine. Yuri Zhislin, violin — Professor of violin and viola at the Royal College of Music; BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year (1993); Artistic Director of the Apollon International Arts Festival in Cyprus (2014). Eve Kim, voice — Royal College of Music student. Performed as a soloist at VIPA Festival (Valencia) and Music Fest Perugia, and under conductor Hun Jung Lim. Iryna Marchuk, violin — Trinity Laban student, the Pavel Kushnir Scholarship recipient, the winner of the J&amp;A Beare Cultural Trust Classical Concerto Competition. Ivanna Oliinyk, cello — Royal Academy of Music student. Became a member of National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2023, performed in BBC Proms in Royal Albert Hall. Nikita Demidenko, piano — Royal College of Music student, London Symphony Orchestra scholar. Founder of the Forgotten Melodies Society. Petr Limonov, piano — Winner of the Nikolai Rubinstein Piano Competition. Edward Tait, composer and piano — Royal Academy of Music student. Recipient of the Tim Stevenson Prize for Outstanding Composition. 1st Prize winner in the Composition category at the Tiziano Rossetti International Music Competition. Dina Parakhina, piano— Piano Professor at the Royal College of Music, toured with the BBC Philharmonic in Germany and Spain. Yuri Torchinsky, violin — Violin professor at the Royal Northern College of Music and Leader of the BBC Philharmonic.

Doors open at 6:30 pm. Guests can enjoy a welcome drink and explore the Leighton House Museum and garden before the concert.
