Painting Realistic Skies: Light, Layers & Cloud Realism is a focused, one-hour live online workshop for painters who want to better understand how to create believable skies with light, atmosphere, and depth.

This live online workshop focuses on the early stages of painting realistic skies and clouds in oil.

During the session, I’ll guide you through how I begin a cloudscape — from preparing the surface and establishing the background, to mixing cloud colours and building the first cloud forms with softness and light.

You’ll learn how to:

• soften edges without losing structure
• build glowing colour blends using light layers
• create depth through subtle tonal shifts
• recognise when a sky feels balanced at its early stage.

This is not a full start-to-finish painting, but a focused look at the most important foundational decisions that determine whether a cloudscape works or not.

The workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediate painters and is designed as a calm, guided learning experience rather than a fast-paced tutorial.

The session includes a live presentation using painting video material, with explanation and discussion throughout, plus time for questions at the end.
