Alexander Wolfe + Strings @ Christ Church
Alexander Wolfe returns to Christchurch playing songs from his 5 solo albums backed by a string quartet. Support from Woodpig.
Alexander Wolfe is bringing his unique strain of alt-folk back to Christchurch on 25th April. Playing songs from his 5 solo albums backed by a string quartet, this promises to be a magical evening not to be missed.
His debut album “Morning Brings a Flood” was released in 2011. Critics were universal in their praise, Q magazine & Uncut both gave the album 4 stars and the New York Post declared it “ The most beautiful album we’ve heard in years. Period".
Wolfe raised his profile in 2012 with his second album “Skeletons”, which was a more somber affair written and recorded in a 2 week period during a break up. The result is as bleak as it is beautiful, an album dealing with grief and heartbreak.
Then followed 2016’s double album of elegantly layered folk rock ‘From The Shallows’, and then his most ambitious album to date, 2020’s Little death, garnering critical acclaim across the board, and sharing stages with the likes of Feist, Paul Weller, & Vampire Weekend.
After a long period of personal reckoning away from the spotlight Wolfe released his fifth album 'Everythinglessness' in January 2026, a semi autobiographical concept album about a boy growing up in Lewisham struggling with his mental health and masculinity. It is his most challenging, beautiful, and personal work yet.
