Textile Art - Machine Embroider a Wildflower Art Piece (Thetford)

Overview of Course

In this class you will make a small textile art vase, you will build a fabric collage using a combination of reclaimed fabrics and fabric art techniques to create a beautiful scenic piece.

What will I learn?

You will be given a scenic themed template that will be a guide to creating the fabric collage and prepared fabric bases to work on.

You will be using applique and simplistic embroidery stitches.

You will be using various hand dyed fabrics, reclaimed printed fabrics, embroidery thread, reclaimed fabrics, voile and reclaimed vintage lace.

You will learn fabric art methods and including fabric painting to make the vase.

This beautifully hand-crafted vase can be used as a keeps sake or give as a beautifully hand-crafted gift.

What is it?

This is a creative fabric art workshop where you will be taught various machine embroidery techniques to make a fabric collage art piece. You will be shown how to collage fabric onto an already handmade base to create a landscape. You will then learn how to create a wildflower image over the landscape background that will have been created. Once landscape and wildflower images have been completed, you will then add detail using appliqué and embellishment to finish the fabric art piece.

Who is the course for?

The workshop is great for beginners and intermediate sewers who know how to use a sewing machine and who would like to try something new using textiles to create art.

Will I have to provide anything?

The tutor will provide all materials needed to create the fabric art collage piece. You will need to bring your own sewing machine, ensuring that the machine has an embroidery foot attachment as this will be needed to create free style sewing with the machine.

(You can find an embroidery foot for your machine by searching on Amazon, key in the make of the sewing machine adding embroidery foot at the end of the sentence.)

Most brands of sewing machine will have their own make of embroidery foot or come with the embroidery foot. Please also remember to bring your own scissors also.

The tutor will bring along 2 sewing machines that can be used, however these would be on first come first served basis, (please email the office at thetford@easterneducationgroup.ac.uk to ask for availability) when booking a space. If leaners do not have a sewing machine and would like to try this could be an option.

By attending this workshop, you will learn some tips and tricks that the tutor uses the create fabric art. Come along and have a little crafty fun using your own sewing machine.
