The Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) is an office of the Department for the Economy in Belfast staffed by British Geological Survey scientists. GSNI provides data, information, research services, advice and expertise to central and local government to support sustainable economic development of natural resources and to protect the environment.GSNI has collaborated on research with 35 universities worldwide, and has received five industry awards for communications, acquiring minerals data, and use of geographic information systems.

<h3>Dublin Airport's Geothermal Journey</h3><p>This is the third webinar in our 2026 Geothermal Webinar Series.</p><p>Dublin Airport recently completed one of Ireland’s largest geothermal feasibility studies, exploring how ground‑source heating and cooling could help the airport cut its Scope 1 emissions by 51% by 2030. Focusing on the energy‑intensive areas around Terminal 2 and key piers, the study assessed the potential for a district‑scale geothermal heat pump system of up to 10 MWth, combining open‑ and closed‑loop technologies across multiple test sites.</p><p>This webinar will walk through the airport’s geothermal journey—from subsurface investigations and thermal response testing to detailed system modelling—and highlight the practical challenges of integrating geothermal solutions within a busy operational airport.
