Understanding and Supporting Pregnancy Loss through a Neurodivergent Lens
The purpose of this webinar is to create a compassionate and validating space for neurodivergent individuals affected by pregnancy loss
MISS are delighted to be working with ND Birth to provide you with an upcoming webinar. The purpose of this webinar is to create a compassionate and validating space for neurodivergent individuals affected by pregnancy loss. This will explore how neurodivergence can shape the experience and expression of grief, challenging common assumptions about what grief “should” look like. By recognising differences in emotional processing, sensory experience, communication styles, and executive functioning, the session aims to normalise diverse grief responses and reduce feelings of isolation or misunderstanding. It also provides practical strategies for navigating the emotional, sensory, and logistical challenges that can arise after loss, while empowering attendees to advocate for neuro-affirming care and support.
Attendees will gain:
Validation and understanding
- Recognition that grief is not linear and may look different for neurodivergent people.
- Reassurance that there is no “correct” way to experience or express loss.
Insight into neurodivergent grief
- Understanding how factors such as emotional intensity, alexithymia, masking, and differences in processing can shape the experience of pregnancy loss.
- Language to explain these experiences to partners, family members, and healthcare professionals.
Practical coping strategies
- Tools for managing sensory overload during medical appointments, memorials, or social interactions.
- Simple systems to reduce executive functioning demands during a time of grief.
Communication support
- Scripts and strategies for telling others about a loss, responding to messages, and setting boundaries.
- Ways to communicate needs when emotional processing or verbal expression is difficult.
Mental health awareness
- Guidance on recognising when additional support may be needed.
- Understanding the increased risk of anxiety, depression, or trauma after pregnancy loss, particularly for neurodivergent individuals.
Accessible support pathways
- An overview of different types of bereavement support, including options that may feel more accessible to neurodivergent people (such as peer communities, written resources, and asynchronous support).
