Join us for a talk with Dr Milton Brown, Director of KLTV, about filmmaking, representation and community voice in Kirklees. Through reflections on practice, film screenings and an open discussion with audiences, this session will consider how local media can foreground lived experience, support participation and stimulate more inclusive ways of storytelling.
The event will look at the intricacies of filmmaking with communities, which perspectives are given space on screen, and how film can contribute to dialogue, visibility and cultural agency.

Dr Milton Brown is Chief Executive Officer and Director of Kirklees Local Television (KLTV), which documents local news, promotes civic activism and research, and encourages discussion around historical events, current social issues, and matters of culture that affect Huddersfield and West Yorkshire. He is particularly interested in highlight how film can contribute to dialogue, equity, equality, representation, and cultural agency.
After leaving the Royal Air Force in 1986, he built a 30-year career in education, leadership, training, and organisational development across private, public, and third-sector organisations in the UK and internationally.
He holds a PhD in History and Philosophy from the University of Huddersfield, where his research explored the experiences of African Caribbean people navigating race and constructing identity in post-war Britain. He is also an alumnus of the United Nations for People of African Descent.
