Meeting the Needs of Individuals with PDA Level 2
If you want or need to know more about working with children and young people who have PDA, this is a MUST attend!
This most interesting and transformational PDA OCN London Level 2 accredited course is now available for you to attend as a live, online, tutor-led full day training. Meeting the Needs of Individuals with PDA:
9.30am – 2.15pm
Tuesday 12 May 2026
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is characterised by individuals experiencing an overwhelming need to avoid or resist any demands or requests. This may show itself as defiance, refusal, tantrums and upset, and will give rise to far more extreme behaviours than perhaps the demand or request would usually attract.
This demand avoidant behaviour is rooted in an anxiety-based need to be in control. Demand avoidance can be seen in the development of children generally, including those on the autism spectrum. But often it’s the extent of this avoidance, together with displays of socially shocking behaviour that leads to it being described as 'pathological'.
So if you need help to support behaviours such as individuals who:
**appear sociable, but lack depth in understanding
**have excessive mood swings and impulsivity
**display obsessive behaviour, often focussed on people, either loving or loathing them
…… or very demand avoidant (refusing, upset, outbursts), this training is FOR YOU!
Our training on 12 May 2026 covers the following:
- Understand the meaning of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).
- Know how to support a pupil/student with PDA in class and elsewhere.
- Recognise what causes the behaviours associated with PDA and the best methods to de-escalate.
- Be more aware of how PDA and Autism are linked.
