Medium Format Film Foundations ✨ - 2 day course!
Join Sèverine Howell-Meri at Sunset Studios on the 12th and 23rd April to learn how to shoot on medium format film for the first time
Please read the FAQs before booking ☺️
This 2 day course gives you everything you need to know to get started on the magic of shooting medium format film.
This type of photography revolutionised my process and made me a better, more intentional photographer. I can't wait to teach you this skill.
📍Sunset Studios, Bussey Building, Copeland Road, Peckham, SE15
Day 2 is the floor above in the same building, at Palace of the Dogs, Peckham
Day 1 - 6 hours: April 12th, 2026 · 10:00am - 4:00pm
Day 2 - 4 hours: April 23rd, 2026 · 5:00pm-9:00pm
Tickets:
Get a discounted 2 day pass (recommended)
Day 1 tickets - shooting only
Day 2 tickets - reviewing scans and live editing demo
Day 1 focuses on shooting: learning how medium format cameras work, loading film, using flash, using a light metre and photographing a model. You’ll leave with the confidence to start incorporating medium format film into your own practice.
Day 2 completes the process, as we review and discuss scanned negatives together on a large screen, an invaluable opportunity to analyse results, refine technique, and develop your workflow. Day 2 also includes a live editing demo where Sèverine will show you the process of how she retouches film negatives in photoshop
🎞 One roll of 120 film included for day 1 tickets
📷 Bring your own medium format camera (rentals available via Hygglo.com).
It is recommended you bring a Mamiya RZ67, RB67 or similar, though this is not compulsory.
⚠️ Please ensure you purchase the correct ticket type. Single-day tickets do not grant access to both days.
Who is it for?
- Perfect for beginners or photographers wanting to invest in learning a new skill with a professional.
- Those who want to learn a new skill completely from scratch.
- Photographers who love digital but want to try film for the first time
- Film photographers who want to revisit the practice after a break
What you get
- Learn medium format film from start to finish, with no gaps in the process
- Revitalise your shooting practice by learning in a slower paced, intentional environment
- Gain hands-on studio shooting experience with guidance throughout
- Build the confidence to shoot medium format independently, in natural light and with flash
- Understand why your images worked (or didn’t) by reviewing your scans as a group
- Images featuring a professional model for your portfolio
- Leave with a clear, repeatable approach to shooting film going forward
What makes this course worth investing in?
I take an extremely hands-on, supportive approach to teaching any new skill. When I first started shooting medium format film, Youtube university saw me through, but I wished there was someone actually beside me, showing me how to load film correctly, helping me slow down, and guiding me through mistakes before they became expensive lessons. This workshop is designed to be exactly that: real-time guidance while you shoot, space to ask questions, and a complete learning experience that doesn’t end when you press the shutter, but continues through reviewing and understanding your finished images together.
