DAVID NOLAN - I SWEAR I WAS THERE
50 years since the Sex Pistols played Manchester and the gig that changed the world
On June the 4th 1976 - 50 years ago - four young men took to the stage of the Lesser Free Trade Hall in Manchester.
The noise they made changed everything.
David Nolan, author of seminal Manchester punk book ‘I Swear I Was There’, has spent decades finding out the truth behind ‘The Gig That Changed the World’. He’ll be telling the story of how the Pistols first Manchester gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall came about, how the second gig in July happened so quickly afterwards and the story behind the band’s first TV appearance just down the road at Granada Television. And we’ll hear what a furious Tony Wilson said when he confronted David over claims the Factory Records boss wasn’t ‘there’…
We welcome David Nolan to Mothers Ruin for a special audio visual talk, chat and Q&A
