Overview

A training session on how to support neurodiverse learners. There will be theory and a facilitated, solution-focused discussion.

A bespoke training session for driving instructors focused on understanding neurodiversity and practical approaches to supporting neurodivergent learners in driving lessons.

The session will combine a short theoretical introduction with a facilitated, solution-focused discussion, allowing participants to reflect on their current experiences and identify practical strategies.


Part 1 – Understanding Neurodiversity (1 hour)

An introduction to neurodiversity and how it may present in young people learning to drive. The part of the session be an overview neurodevelopmental differences including:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Dyspraxia
  • Dyslexia


Part 2 – Solution-Focused Discussion (1 hour)

The second part of the session will be a facilitated discussion with participants, using a solution-focused approach to explore real experiences from instructors.

Intended Outcomes

The training aims to support instructors to:

  • Develop a basic understanding of neurodiversity and neurodevelopmental differences
  • Recognise common characteristics associated with neurodvergent learners
  • Increase confidence in supporting neurodivergent learners during driving lessons
  • Identify practical adaptations that can support attention, learning and confidence
  • Share experiences with peers and develop solution-focused strategies
  • Leave with greater awareness of both strengths and challenges associated with neurodivergent learners
