Overview

Urban sketching invites us to slow down and look closely at the city we share. We will draw the streets & buildings of our unique area.

Urban sketching invites us to look closely at the city we share. In Brixton—a place shaped by many voices and histories —we will gather to draw the streets, buildings, and everyday moments that make this neighbourhood unique. By sketching together, participants will connect with place and with each other, observing the details that are often overlooked in the rush of city life and hear about the history of some of these buildings. This small act of creative attention reflects the spirit of the London Festival of Architecture: celebrating lived experience and reclaiming public space.

A member of the Brixton Society will be waiting for you at the bottom of the steps to the Brixton Rec from 10.50am.

This event lasts 90 minutes, if the weather is fine we will be outside. You may like to sit on the steps of Brixton Rec for the the first sketch, or stand. The second sketching point is standing only with public toilets nearby. The third stop provides some limited outdoor seating.

Each sketching session is approximately 20 minutes and the route itself is 250ms which includes public realm, pavement and crossing some roads. If the weather is wet we have an alternative undercover route, stop 2 will be near public toilets. Parking is limited in Brixton and we recommend that where possible you travel to the event by public transport, on foot, cycling or wheeling. Brixton train station, Brixton tube and a variety of bus stops are all within a short walk. Queries or further information from: sketch@brixtonsociety.org.uk. If the event is fully booked contact marketwalks@brixtonsociety.org.uk to go on a waiting list.
