Improving SEND Services in Derbyshire: Amplifying Parent Carers’ Voices
At Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice, we know how important it is for families to feel listened to, understood and supported. Many parent carers have told us that the SEND journey can be overwhelming, especially when services don’t always meet their children’s needs and we want you to know that your voices continue to shape everything we do.
Since the recent Ofsted inspection of Derbyshire’s SEND services, there has been a strong focus on what needs to change. That makes this an important moment for parent carers to come together, ask questions, and hear directly from the Local Authority about the improvements being made.
We are pleased to invite you to a special online Q&A session with Gary Saul, Interim Head of SEND at Derbyshire County Council.
Gary is fairly new in his role and is keen to meet parent carers, introduce himself, and share his early priorities, future plans and the developments already beginning to take shape. This session is a great opportunity to get to know him, understand the direction of travel, and hear how the Local Authority intends to address key areas for improvement.
To help us make sure your main concerns are covered, you are welcome to submit questions in advance by Friday 17th April, using: info@derbyshireparentcarervoice.org
There will also be time for additional questions on the day.
Please note: we are unable to discuss individual cases or specific schools, but we can raise wider themes and common experiences.
This is the first session of its kind since the Ofsted inspection, and an important opportunity for parent carers to come together, be heard, and help shape ongoing improvement work across Health, Social Care and SEND.
We hope you’ll join us for this open, constructive conversation.
Together, we can keep working towards better support for children and young people with SEND across Derbyshire.
