Riverflies Safari

Riverflies Safari

Vicarage MeadowDORCHESTER, Dorset
Sunday, May 3 from 2 pm to 3:30 pm
Overview

Discover unexpected wildlife in a river and learn how they can help us monitor it for pollution

The River Cerne contains many interesting invertebrates. Volunteers from the “Riverfly” project, will teach us how to observe and monitor the health of our river by catching, identifying and counting the variety of invertebrates which live in the river bed.

They will provide equipment as well as expertise.

Wellies are needed and warm/dry clothing if the weather is cold/wet.

Children must be accompanied, and the accompanying adults are responsible for the safety of their children.

This workshop is combined with ‘Learn how to Cast a Fly’ as they work together to explain the ecology of rivers and how their food webs work. - ie one ticket gives access to both activities which take place in the same place at the same time.

The Riverflies workshop enables you to learn more about what lives in the river: all are potential trout food. The Flycasting workshop will teach you more about the lifecycles and interactions of the organisms in the river.

£5 per child / £8 adult / Family (2A+1/2C or 1A+3C) £20
