  • Understanding basic financial responsibilities, reporting requirements, and who charity accounts need to be provided to
  • The importance of keeping clear and accurate accounting records—and how they support transparency, control, and trust
  • Different types of charity accounts, including receipts & payments and accruals, and when each is appropriate
  • Understanding financial statements such as income & expenditure reports and balance sheets
  • Safe and practical bookkeeping methods, including double‑entry bookkeeping explained in plain English
  • Managing restricted and unrestricted funds correctly
  • Handling cash safely, including petty cash systems, audit trails, and expense controls
  • Good financial safeguards, checks, and balances—including trustee oversight, bank reconciliation, and fraud prevention
