The local saint Aldhelm was a Renowned Jokester who sometimes Taught with 'What am I?' Riddles - Can you Beat 10thC Wit?

How did those 10thC monks in Cerne Abbey while away long winter evenings? Surprisingly, ‘What am I?’ type riddles were rather popular! In fact St Aldhelm, bishop of Sherborne in the 7thC, was a renowned wit who wrote some. Many are ‘double entendres’ – can you spot the hidden meaning?! Modern translations of the riddles will be supplied in booklet form. Come and pit your puzzle-solving skill against those minds of a millennium ago.
