A Derbyshire Makes Event

Women Who Make: Wirksworth Walk of Wonder

Join Steph Walsh and Charlotte Marsh for a creative Wander Walk through Wirksworth and Bolehill, using a glass photo ball to see this unique landscape in new and unexpected ways.

Often described as the ‘Gem of the Peak’ and ‘The Town that Time Forgot’, Wirksworth is a quirky and creative town shaped by its geology, quarrying heritage and strong sense of place. Having grown up in Bolehill and gone to school in Wirksworth, Steph brings a personal knowledge of its jitties, gennels and hidden corners.

Starting in the town centre, you’ll be introduced to the glass photo ball — a simple but powerful tool that transforms your perspective, creating striking and unusual images. You’ll be provided with a glass ball, top tips and a waist bag, before setting off to explore the town’s historic streets and architecture through a creative lens.

From there, we’ll ascend through fields to the village of Bolehill, before returning downhill through an old quarry via The National Stone Centre, passing sculptures and relics including the ‘Classifier’ and artwork by Liane Lang.

The walk will finish with a guided breathwork session led by Charlotte in Stoney Wood Community Woodland at the StarDisc – a striking 21st-century stone circle carved in black granite, featuring an illuminated star chart.

The walk will start at 10.30am and will last approximately 3 hours.

Together, we will explore:

✅ Creative photography using a glass photo ball
✅ The historic streets, buildings and hidden pathways of Wirksworth
✅ The village of Bolehill and surrounding landscape
✅ Quarrying heritage, sculptures and geological features
✅ A guided breathwork session in a unique woodland setting
