The Official Introduction to Transactional Analysis (TA)

The Official Introduction to Transactional Analysis (TA)

Two-day online course: Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August 2026, 10.00 - 17.00

Have you ever wondered why…..

  • you do the things you do?
  • you think the way you think?
  • you behave the way you behave?
  • you feel the way you feel?
  • you are different from all others?

Then this is the course for you. The 2-day Introduction to Transactional Analysis (TA 101) answers these questions and many more offering a compassionate lens to take a closer look at how and why you fit into your world.

Explore the depths of human interaction and communication. This is an opportunity to learn more about yourself and others. TA is an amazingly powerful psychological theory. It has the surprising quality of being easily accessible for the newcomer, yet with a depth and complexity that can fascinate and satisfy practitioners for a lifetime.

The model can be used to understand and work with our personal and interpersonal dynamics in the workplace, in personal relationships, and educational and training settings. Or it may be the first step in training to become a counsellor or psychotherapist.

Fee

£220 (inc. VAT) for self-funding individuals for the two-day course or £270 (inc. VAT) for organisations.

Facilitators

Fiona Firman, PTSTA (P)

Fiona leads the overall development of the Physis Scotland training programme, its syllabus and accreditation with UKATA, UKCP and COSCA, and the National Counselling Society.

Fiona is passionate about teaching TA and supporting people’s growth and development on a personal and professional basis through the use of TA. She is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, supervisor and an accredited COSCA Diploma trainer. Fiona co-teaches on the Foundation Year programme, as well as offering specialised CPD workshops.

In addition to leading the programme at Physis Scotland, Fiona has a private psychotherapy practice in Edinburgh where she works with individuals and couples.

Fiona has extensive experience in working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse within the voluntary & statutory sectors, as well as in her private practice. She also has a special interest in working with clients who have a Borderline process, &/or a formal diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.

Kate Simpson, CTA (P)

Kate Simpson is a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Transactional Analyst with a wealth of experience and a passion for helping people grow. With an MSc in TA Psychotherapy, Kate is joining the Physis team as the new Assistant Director of Training, where she'll work alongside the two Fionas to help guide the next generation of practitioners. You'll find her co-teaching the TA 101 and Foundation Year courses, bringing her practical wisdom to the classroom.

Kate's journey to becoming a psychotherapist began 11 years ago, but her dedication to human development spans a lifetime. For 25 years, she owned and ran an OFSTED registered Childcare Setting, where she not only nurtured young minds but also championed the professional growth of her colleagues. This belief in the transformative power of self-development is a core part of who she is. A lifelong Buddhist, and past Board Member of the Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London, she's also an advocate for the idea that we can all grow beyond what we imagine is possible—that our life "scripts" are there to be rewritten.

Currently, Kate runs a successful joint clinical practice in Angus, specialising in addiction, trauma, anxiety, and neurodiversity. She deeply understands how early life experiences can impact us, and she's committed to helping her clients navigate those challenges. As a supervisor, she also supports other therapists in their work.

Having recently moved back to Scotland, where her family roots run deep, Kate is committed to contribute to a growing and vital TA presence in Scotland. She's "thrilled and excited" to join the Physis team and looks forward to working with students, tutors and staff to help grow this "vibrant and rapidly expanding community."
