Join us as part of the City Nature Challenge for a relaxing, educational walk exploring Sunderland’s historic and hidden natural gems!
Join a relaxed and engaging heritage and nature walk through Sunderland, designed to connect people with the area’s rich past and vibrant natural environment. Beginning at the University of Sunderland campus, participants can enjoy a free hot drink from the Gateway Café before setting off on a guided journey toward Mowbray Park.
This event will meet at: The Gateway Cafe, City Campus at 12.45pm, walk will commence at 1pm.
Along the route, you’ll discover fascinating insights into the local heritage, from historic landmarks to stories that have shaped the community. At the same time, the walk encourages you to observe and record the nature and wildlife you encounter, helping to build awareness of Sunderland’s urban biodiversity. No equipment or prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
The walk concludes in Mowbray Park, where a botanics expert will provide an informative and accessible introduction to the surrounding plant life and ecosystems, deepening your appreciation of the natural world.
This event forms part of the wider City Nature Challenge, taking place from 24th to 27th April, with multiple activities happening across Sunderland to celebrate and document local wildlife.
