Cooking Through Grief: The True Magic of a Simple Dish
Join me online to learn my 'Magic' Soup—a simple, comforting dish perfect for when grief makes cooking hard. Free for people on low income.
When you're grieving, even simple tasks like cooking can feel overwhelming. In this gentle, practical workshop you'll learn how to make a nourishing one-pot soup that requires minimal energy but provides maximum comfort and nutrition.
What We'll Make:
A versatile lentil and vegetable soup using affordable, accessible ingredients (around £3-5). I call it my 'Magic' Soup because it adapts to whatever you have in your cupboard, can be made in no time, and truly nourishes your body when you need it most.
What You'll Learn:
• How to make a simple, warming soup from scratch with affordable ingredients
• Why these particular ingredients support your body during grief
• How to adapt the recipe based on what you have available
• Tips for making this meal even more quickly and with minimal effort
Who This Is For:
• Anyone experiencing bereavement who finds cooking challenging right now
• People on low incomes looking for affordable, nourishing meal ideas
• Those who feel overwhelmed in the kitchen
• Anyone who needs one reliable recipe they can return to again and again
Format:
We’ll cook together in real time over Zoom. I’ll guide you through each step, and you can follow along in your own kitchen or simply watch. There will be plenty of time for questions, support, and gentle conversation.
What You'll Need:
• Basic kitchen equipment (medium saucepan, knife, chopping board)
• Simple ingredients (full list sent after registration)
• No previous cooking experience necessary
Cost:
This workshop is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and is completely free for people on low incomes.
Important: Participants will be asked to complete a brief survey before and after the workshop (5 minutes each). This helps demonstrate the value of this support and secure future funding for similar workshops.
About Your Facilitator:
