2026 Scottish Parliament Election Hustings

Founded in 1978, the Association of Scotland’s Self-Caterers (ASSC) is the leading source of knowledge on short-term letting and holiday homes in Scotland. The ASSC is the only trade body representing the interests of the traditional self-catering sector. It has more than 650 Members, operating in excess of 7,000 self-catering properties throughout Scotland, from city centre apartments, to rural cottages, to lodges and chalets, to castles. The ASSC commits its members to maintaining the principles of “quality, integrity, cleanliness, comfort, courtesy and efficiency” and to offering visitors to Scotland consistently high standards within their self-catering properties. The ASSC’s vision is to place our members at the forefront of a professional, vibrant and prosperous Scottish self-catering sector.The ASSC has close links with other European countries, as founding members of the European Holiday Homes Association (EHHA). It is also a member of the Scottish Tourism Alliance Council. The Association works closely with local authorities and Scottish Government to support the self-catering and short-term let sector and has recently produced a Code of Conduct for members and a policy paper presenting a Long-Term Solution to Short-Term Letting.

With the Scottish Parliament election fast approaching, this is a pivotal moment for our sector to engage directly with those shaping Scotland’s future.We are pleased to invite ASSC members and members of the wider public with an interest in Scottish tourism, to attend a dedicated industry hustings, bringing together representatives from Scotland’s main political parties, to discuss the issues that matter most to those involved in Scottish tourism. The hustings will take place on:Tuesday 7th April from 6pm - 8pm (doors from 5.30pm)at: The Waterside Suite, Glen Mhor Hotel, Ness Bank, Inverness, IV2 4SG. The following candidates have confirmed their attendance:<ul><li>Fergus Ewing, Independent candidate for Inverness &amp; Nairn</li><li>Tim Eagle, Scottish Conservative candidate for Moray</li><li>Emma Roddick, Scottish National Party candidate for Inverness and Nairn</li><li>Cllr Michael Gregson, Scottish Labour</li><li>Fred Campbell, Reform UK Scotland candidate</li><li>Neil Alexander, Liberal Democrats candidate for Inverness and Nairn</li><li>Anne Thomas, Scottish Greens Highlands and Islands Regional List Candidate</li></ul>This event forms a key part of our ongoing engagement work to ensure the voice of the self-catering sector is heard, strengthening relationships with policymakers and influencing the next Scottish Government’s approach to tourism, regulation and rural economies.The party representatives will each deliver a short opening statement, followed by a moderated Q&amp;A session by ASSC Chief Executive Fiona Campbell MBE – and this is your opportunity to put questions directly to candidates and hear their priorities for the next parliamentary term.
