Who was Michael Davies (1936-2004)?

Twenty years after his death, Davies is known all over the world as a defender of the Traditional Mass and the teaching of the Church. His trilogy 'Cranmer's Godly Order', 'Pope John's Council' and 'Paul Paul's New Mass' have been the introduction to the Traditionalist movement for a generation.

Davies was a convert to Catholicism. Having seen active service in the army in Burma, he became a schoolteacher. He became active in opposing the 'new catechetics' that followed Vatican II, and went on to write many books and articles on the teaching of the Church and the Mass.

Davies served on the Latin Mass Society Committee and was the President of Una Voce International (FIUV) from 1994 to 2003. As well as writing for the public, therefore, he was involved in discussions with the Curia and was highly esteemed by Cardinal Ratzinger.

Doors open at 6:30pm in the St Wilfrid Hall at the London Oratory. Leo Darroch, long-term collaborator with Michael Davies, will give a short talk at 7pm and there will be time for questions. Refreshments will be provided and copies of the book will be on sale. The event will end at 9pm.
