Carousel Printmaking Studio is an accessible community space providing opportunities for artists and the wider community to access quality printmaking equipment facilities and education. Though volunteer led we also offer work opportunities to local artists and educators through our programme of regular practical workshops.

Printmaking Workshops 2026  - 2027

New courses for 2026 including gelli plate printing, linocut, woodcut, fabric block printing, and a special series of evenings with flowers!

Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic processes, using sunlight to produce beautiful and delicate blue images. Although a simple process, it allows creates opportunities for artists to think and work in complex and experimental ways, and create images from found materials.In this workshop you will learn about the exposure process and how to coat materials and tone your images. We will make special use of botanical materials and foliage, gathered from the gardens surrounding the studio and those you might like to bring from home, which lend themselves fantastically to cyanotype printing. Note: If the weather gods aren't on our side, we have a UV exposure unit as a backup to help to expose our images.

All materials and equipment will be provided.Participants can bring their own materials for use in the composition, the flatter the better, such as acetate prints, lace and thin fabrics, and foloage. Teas, coffees and biscuits are provided.

<h3>About the Tutor</h3> One of our regular volunteers and workshop leaders, Andrew Dolan has been a photographer and further education lecturer in photography for over thirty years.

About Carousel Print StudioCarousel Print Studio is a not for profit charity based on the ground floor of Exchange Place Studios in Castlegate. Carousel offers printmaking workshops and facilities for creatives in Sheffield, in a bright, warm, accessible and well equipped printmaking studio, and in community settings.Carousel's studio is located on the ground floor just to the left of reception. The doors are widened for ease of access and there is an accessible toilet.
