Overview

An online Gathering making space for your Grief, held in a gentle ceremonial way; commit to 9 or attend when you can. Sign Up for April 2026

Starting in April 2026 and running monthly until December 2026 Alexandra Derwen is offering a “Grief Gathering Space” for all who feel called to join. Alexandra (they / them) holds a deep and gentle ceremonial space weaving poetry, prayer, sharing circles, silences and music rooted in animism and universal spiritual principles; Alexandra is a champion of the Sacredness of death and grief and is a carrier of ancient lament traditions. Alexandra is more than 30 years a death and grief doula, founder and facilitator of the Journey with Death doula preparation course, author of the Lost Rites trilogy of books that chart the loss and reclamation of death rites and communal mourning practices from the personal to the collective to the systemic. Alexandra believes that Grief is the medicine for Trauma and unless we grieve together we cannot transmute or move through our emotional stories that bind and limit us.

The vision for these Grief Gatherings are that they can be accessed live or via the recording; that they require a commitment from you to put down the distractions, carve out the time and make space for your grief. You can use the recordings of the sessions at any time if you need to “go there” and release some pent up grief while feeling held and bounded in the process. The sessions will follow the same structure each time to provide you with familiarity and predictability:

First Hour:

Welcome and a few words from Alexandra in preparation
An invitation to name your grief either outloud or to yourself
A Guided meditation to bring you into the Presence of True Grief

A short comfort break

Second Hour:

Stone ritual, making space for Catharsis

Sound ritual, cleansing yourself of what needs to be released

Guided visualisation to return you to the Upright state

Ceremony will officially close

Last Half Hour:

Not recorded, a space for people to share if they need a place to process verbally, lightly held within the spirit of self-responsibility – ie if something arises for you to process further that you can and will do that outside this space.

What you will need to bring?

Yourself, without distractions (eg phone off, space from family, not looking at emails)
A commitment to be present and really sit with Grief
A rock that fits in one hand but has some weight
A candle and matches / lighter (we will light these together)

A blanket and any other comfort measures that you can hold / swaddle yourself in
