IDAHOBIT 2026: Knowledge and Power

Salford Proud

An LGBTQ+ history and culture event featuring talks, training, art, allyship and an optional walk around the campus with Rainbow Mind.

Room 0.11, Science, Engineering & Environment Building

Join Salford Proud for a journey through time, exploring the rich and often hidden history of gender diversity and sexuality, and the ways these have shaped our world.Hearing from colleagues and speakers across the University, we’ll shine a light on the thoughtful, impactful work taking place at Salford to promote respect, compassion and inclusion for people of all genders and sexualities. This event will focus on challenging common myths and misinformation around gender diversity, with particular attention to the long‑standing history of non‑binary identities across cultures and societies, alongside wider explorations of sexuality. Together, we’ll look at how gender diversity has always existed - and how it continues to move our society forward in creative, meaningful and transformative ways.We aim to create a respectful, compassionate learning environment that centres curiosity, care and allyship. This is not a space to debate, question or challenge the existence of gender diversity. Instead, it is a space to come together as allies, to separate fact from fiction, and to share knowledge that is too often overlooked or erased.Whether you are new to these conversations or already deeply engaged, this session offers the opportunity to learn, reflect, and stand in solidarity - with openness, respect and humanity at the core.
