Pro-Active Play is for children who have to wait: whether for the outcome of a court case, for assessment, or for therapeutic intervention.

Course SummaryPro-Active Play is for children who have to wait: whether for the outcome of a court case, or for assessment, or for therapeutic intervention. The children we are talking about have already been waiting for someone to see that there may be issues to deal with. Distress, meltdowns, and changed behaviour in response to trauma, abuse or neglect, appear gradually, and then someone decides to do something. And then there is usually a slow answer to an urgent struggle.If we can enable play (not play therapy or therapeutic play), children will be able to focus their energy and distress on the playful process. What I have called in other contexts ‘maintenance play’. By building or painting or exploring, all the several facets of play, there will be benefits for both the child and the family. Since many of these children will be overwhelmed by their experiences, it is important not to overwhelm them with too many choices. Your TrainerDr Sue Jennings PhD is Professor of Play, a life-time award from the European Federation of Dramatherapists. She is a pioneer of play and dramatherapy and Neuro-Dramatic-Play.She is Senior Research Fellow of the Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham, Distinguished Scholar of the University of the Witwatersrand and Honorary Fellow of Roehampton University. She has previously held academic posts at the Universities of Coleraine, Leeds Beckett, Derby, York St John, Roehampton and Hertfordshire, Adjunct Professor NYU, and Visiting Professor at HELP University, Kuala Lumpur.Sue is also a professional author and has published over 40 books of theory and practice, many of them with practical ideas and techniques. She trains individuals and staff teams in NDP both online and in person, in UK and overseas.
