Angel Project Launch
Join us at Angel Meadow and Manchester Cathedral to learn more about the history and get involved. Guest speaker, writer Dean Kirby
With special guest, Dr Dean Kirby, we launch our Angel Project - designed to engage local people in the stories of the past and our stories of today.
Starting in Angel Meadow at 1pm with contributions from the 'Writing Angel Meadow' workshops that have been conducted by our writer in residence, Tom Branfoot, we will move to the Cathedral for a 2pm start where speakers will bring alive the history of Angel Meadow, showcase archives and give you all a chance to say what you would like us to do as the project develops. We are delighted that award-winning journalist and urban historian, Dr. Dean Kirby, author of 'Angel Meadow. Victorian Britain's Most Savage Slum' will be sharing some of the stories and histories he has uncovered. We are also joined by Norman Redhead, our Cathedral Archaeologist, who has extensive experience and knowledge of Manchester's history
Based around the history of Angel Meadow, we aim to look at how our heritage has been shaped by what has gone before, and how we can preserve stories and artefacts to tell afresh for new generations.
The event is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund
