European Language Day

The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange. We provide:German language courses and examsteacher training and school liaison worka lending library and information centrea programme of cultural events organised with local partners.

Discover languages and socialise with fellow language lovers! What awaits you?Language speak-dating Explore a variety of languages: Spanish, Italian, Scots, Polish, Scottish Gaelic, German, and French. A European quiz Test your knowledge of Europe in a fun quiz with prizes to be won - so don’t miss out! Our current exhibitions Murmures parallèles A project led by the Alliance Française Glasgow in collaboration with French artist Boris Allenou, which highlights the voices of French and French-speaking people living in Scotland The Wuschel Exhibition This multimedia exhibition invites children to explore the creative world of Axel Scheffler through a rich blend of visual, audio storytelling and hands-on creativity. Along the way, they’ll also pick up German words, though no prior knowledge of German is required, making the exhibition suitable for all. Programme: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm: Language Speak-Dating Discover several languages through fun, beginner-friendly taster sessions. Each session lasts 15–20 minutes, giving you the chance to try multiple languages!. 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm: European Countries Quiz Test your knowledge of European countries in a fun quiz with prizes to be won, including a free language course. The event is offered by the Alliance Française and the Goethe-Institut and organised in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh, the Consejería de Educación in the United Kingdom, the Scots Language Centre, the University of Glasgow, and Festival of Europe Scotland.
