FBMH Environmental Sustainability Showcase 2026
Join the Faculty of Biology Medicine and Health (FBMH) for our 4th Environmental Sustainability Showcase, celebrating our Faculty Quads.
The Showcase is free to attend and will take place in person. We welcome all University staff and students to join us.
Join the Faculty of Biology Medicine and Health (FBMH) for our fourth Environmental Sustainability (ES) Showcase, hosted by Dr Maggy Fostier (Associate Dean for ES, FBMH), Jo Pennock (Director for Social Responsibility, School of Biological Sciences), and Dr Jenny Herbert (Social Responsibility Lead, Division of Medical Education).
This year, our showcase will focus on our impact and relation with the environment – in our urban green spaces and daily life at home. Green spaces play vital roles in reducing stress and improving overall wellbeing.
Following on from stress awareness month in April, join us to celebrate biodiversity on campus by visiting our Faculty quads (Stopford and Michael Smith). It is also 'Talk slow day' an unofficial initiative, celebrated on 10th June, designed to encourage deliberate, face-to-face communication, particularly for those with neurological conditions like aphasia. It emphasizes slowing down speech to improve understanding and reduce communication breakdown.
We will therefore be hosting two events on the 10th and 11th June celebrating the work to enhance biodiversity on campus and in our Faculty quads (Stopford and Michael Smith) and providing tips to be sustainable at home (food, hygiene and cleaning products).
So please join us, and take time to slow down, enjoy nature on campus plus get involved with our interactive stalls about nature and sustainability at home.
You can expect:
Day 1 (Wednesday, 10 June): Michael Smith Quad
- Pallet workshop
- Quad biodiversity tour
- Quad gardeners competition
- Board games evening (4pm onwards)
- Light refreshments (tea and coffee)
Day 2 (Thursday, 11 June): Stopford Quad
- Insect puddler workshop
- Quad Biodiversity tour (rear)
- Games: tournament Connect 4 and mini ping pong
- Sustainable kitchen and bathroom exhibit

This event is intended for staff and students and aims to celebrate, inform and inspire.
