Our Place Heritage Mapping Workshop - North Acomb
Join York Civic Trust for a welcoming, interactive community heritage-mapping session as part of Our Place: Acomb and Westfield.
Join York Civic Trust for a welcoming, interactive community heritage-mapping session as part of Our Place: Acomb and Westfield, made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.
This workshop invites local residents to come together and explore the heritage of their area. Both officially recognised sites and personal, often overlooked stories help make a community unique.
We’ll begin by exploring known heritage assets, such as listed buildings and entries on the local heritage list. From there, participants will be encouraged to share their own memories, experiences, and knowledge, adding meaningful places, stories, and traditions to a large shared map.
Whether it’s a favourite street, a hidden corner, or a story connected to a place, your contribution will help build a richer, more inclusive picture of local heritage.
No prior experience is needed, just an interest in the place you live.
This session is the first in a series of two workshops, delivered across several venues. A follow-up session will take place two weeks later, focusing on developing practical research skills using accessible online resources, and building on the ideas gathered in this first workshop. Attendance at both sessions is encouraged but not essential, and the workshop is free to attend. If you’d like to join both, just remember to book a place on each workshop.
