Our Place Heritage Research Workshop - North Acomb
Join York Civic Trust for a introduction to research skills part of Our Place: Acomb and Westfield.
Join York Civic Trust for this follow-up session in the Our Place: Acomb and Westfield programme, made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players. In this session, we’ll build on the ideas and contributions gathered in the Mapping Workshop.
This workshop focuses on developing practical heritage research skills using a range of freely available online resources. Delivered in a clear, step-by-step format, the session is designed to help you feel confident exploring the history of your local area.
If you’ve ever wanted to carry out your own heritage research but weren’t sure where to start, this session is for you. We’ll introduce a selection of useful websites and tools that offer a great starting point for discovering local history, places, and stories.
This session is suitable for all skill levels, and participants are encouraged to work together, share knowledge, and support one another throughout. Not confident using computers? No problem. Everything will be broken down into simple, easy-to-follow steps, with guidance provided along the way.
This is a relaxed session with no pressure, just an interest in the place you call home and a curiosity about how to explore its heritage.
You’re welcome to bring your own laptop, but it’s not essential. Most of the websites we explore can also be accessed via a smartphone, and you’ll receive an easy-to-follow guide to help you revisit the resources in your own time.
