Glasgow Talks | Class is Not Dead
“Class Is Not Dead” is a conversation and direct challenge to the comfortable myth that class no longer shapes people’s lives in Scotland.
Class Is Not Dead is an afternoon of conversation, reflection, and lived experience, hosted by Anne Hughes at the Pearce Institute in Govan.
Bringing together four speakers to discuss class, voice, and bias in Glasgow today, the event challenges the idea that class is a thing of the past.
It brings into the open what is often dismissed or shut down:
- That class still affects opportunity, confidence, and credibility.
- That accent acts as a social signal, often triggering bias in professional and public spaces.
- That conversations about class are frequently minimised, avoided, or labelled outdated—especially by those not affected by it.
Each speaker will share a short perspective, followed by a panel discussion and audience discussion and Q&A.
This is not a conversation about history. It’s about now.
