A film 10 years in the making. In the depths of the Amazon rainforest, a 13-year-old girl clings to dreams of escaping.
As part of the Women Without Borders Festival, join us for a special screening of Manas - the powerful and award-winning debut feature from Brazilian filmmaker Marianna Brennand.
Set on the remote island of Marajó in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, Manas follows 13-year-old Marcielle (“Tielle”) as she begins to uncover the harsh realities hidden beneath the surface of her isolated riverside community. As dreams of escape collide with cycles of silence, abuse, and oppression, Tielle must find the courage to confront the forces shaping the lives of women around her.
Premiering at the Venice International Film Festival, where it received the prestigious Giornate degli Autori Director’s Award, Manas has earned international acclaim for its breathtaking cinematography, emotional intensity, and fearless storytelling.
Raw, intimate, and deeply moving, Manas is a striking portrait of resilience, survival, and the strength of young women finding their voice.
