Creative Writing Workshop at the Museum of Writing

Senate House LibraryLondon, England
Overview

Get your imagination flowing and explore the materiality language in this creative writing workshop.

Discover 5,000 years of human creativity in a writing workshop inspired by the new Museum of Writing at Senate House Library. A guided tour of the exhibition with its curator and writer-in-residence Jade Cuttle will journey through the long, surprising history of writing itself, a medium that is far less black and white than it might seem. Have you ever spoken in knots? Etched thoughts into clay with a wooden stylus? Written with a quill, charcoal or across the mountainous texture of mulberry paper? In this workshop we’ll explore the materiality of language itself, from creating our own clay tablets with wooden styli to crafting quipu-inspired knotted cords, while engaging in a series of creative writing prompts and reflecting on what it means to turn thought into text.

Please meet at the main entrance to Senate House Library on the 4th floor of the south block of Senate House.
