ICoTA Scandinavia - Basic Wireline (Well Intervention) Course

This event is free to attend to all ICoTA Young Professionals. The event will take place during the Scandinavia Well Intervention Conference. YPs can then attend the Ice Breaker for just 100 NOK after the course which includes networking with all conference attendees, drinks and food.
Basic Wireline (Well Intervention) – 2-Hour Course Outline
1. Introduction to Wireline Operations (10 minutes)
- Definition of wireline (slickline vs electric line)
- Role of wireline in well lifecycle (completion, maintenance, diagnostics)
- Typical objectives of wireline jobs
2. Basic Wireline Operations (35 minutes)
Typical operations, mechanical and electric:
- Retrieving downhole equipment (would be nice to get an overview of different pulling tools)
- KOT, jarring operations
- Memory logging
- Fishing operations (basic introduction)
- Logging tools, signal and data transfer
3. Surface Equipment (20 minutes)
- Wireline unit
- Pressure control equipment (PCE). Why pressure control is critical ?
- Lubricator
- Stuffing box / grease injection system
4. Basic Wireline Job Workflow (10 minutes)
Steps (with time estimates):
- Job planning
- Equipment mobilization
- Rig-up
- Pressure testing
- Running tools in hole
- Performing task
- Pull out of hole
- Rig-down
5. Safety and Risk Awareness (25 minutes)
Key hazards:
- Pressure and well control risks
- Dropped objects
- Line break hazards
- H₂S and well fluids
- Energy sources (tension, pressure, moving equipment)
Safety practices:
- Permit to work
- Toolbox talks
- Exclusion zones
- Communication with driller / control room
- Emergency response basics
6. Roles and Responsibilities (10 minutes)
- WIS
- Wireline Supervisor
- Wireline Operator
- Logging crew
- Operations/drift
7. Quick Knowledge Check / Q&A (10 minutes)
- Short quiz (5 questions)
- Discussion of real examples
