Pensychnant Upland Guided History Walk
Join us for a circular walk where you will explore a landscape rich in stories of the past and fascinating archaeological features
Join us for a circular walk exploring a landscape rich in stories of the past and fascinating archaeological features. Your walk will take you past stone circles, standing stones, Iron Age settlements and Medieval farmsteads. As well as enjoying spectacular views of the Conwy Valley, you'll learn about the history of Pensychnant, the story behind Myrddin Potas, and how people lived and worked the landscape over thousands of years.
The walk will culminate at Pensychnant Nature Reserve, where you will be able to enjoy free tea and cake as part of the walk package.
Please note that on the day of the walk there is an open art exhibition at Pensychnant Nature Reserve that you are welcome to explore after the walk finishes.
Duration: 5 hours (10am to 3pm)
Distance: 5 miles (approx)
Fitness level: moderate to fit - there are some steep inclines and stiles to navigate during this mountain walk
WALK LEADER
This walk is being led by Sean Gavin, in partnership with Penmaenmawr Museum. Sean is a qualified upland walk leader and former history tutor. Penmaenmawr Museum is a registered charity number: 1209431 and proceeds from the walk go towards maintaining the museum building and caring for the museum collection.
TERRAIN
Hill walk with some moderate to steep climbs.
Rough stone and grassy tracks that follow public rights of way.
There are gates and stiles to navigate on this walk.
START AND FINISH POINTS
Sychnant Pass car park - grid reference SH754768
Meeting time: 9.45am, ready to commence walk at 10am
Please do not park in Pensychnant Nature Reserve
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Wear strong walking boots
Dress appropriately for the weather conditions, and take warm, waterproof clothing with you
Bring your medications with you
Bring a bottle of water
Bring a packed lunch
No dogs except registered assistance dogs (certification required)
