<h4>What to expect</h4>Join us at Tom and Nicola Tolputt's for a farm walk to discuss their business transition of after dealing with a £60k reduction in subsidy. We will be looking at:<ul><li>Soil analysis and mapping</li><li>Organic nutrient management and options</li><li>Rotational Grazing</li><li>Herbal and permanent pasture leys and where to target them.</li><li>Improving soil health and productivity.</li><li>Soil amendment and nutrient application</li></ul>The event is free to attend and will include refreshments and a light lunch. The event will be held at Whitecross Village Hall, Lanteglos, PL231NF.Agenda10.30am - Arrival at Whitecross Village Hall; welcome and refreshments11.00am - Introduction to Lesquite Farm<ul><li>Review of nutrient maps and balancing results with approved nutrients.</li><li>Results from 3 years of organically approved inputs on organic grassland, arable cropping and soil structure.</li></ul>11.30am - Farm walk and discussion to include.<ul><li>Rotational grazing, mobile water troughs, and paddock designs.</li><li>Herbal leys v permanent pasture.</li><li>Improved rotations.</li></ul>We will have a demo of a specialist sprayer applying micronised gypsum and organically approved applications. (Matt Vellacott will join us form Tow and Fert)1.00pm - Lunch1.30pm - CloseTom and Nicola Tolputt, Farmer and Founder of TerrafarmerBased in Cornwall, Tom is an organic farmer and has worked as a livestock nutrition consultant for over 25 years. He farms around 600 acres with his wife, Nicola, where they put regenerative and biological farming into practice, running an Angus suckler herd and growing organic oats, barley, and fodder beet. <a href="https://terrafarmer.co.uk/" title="https://terrafarmer.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Terrafarmer</a> is an independent, regenerative and biological farm consultancy, advising farms across the UK on sustainable farming systems and helping to build soil health and farm resilience from the ground up. Their work focuses on developing soil biology, increasing organic matter, sequestering carbon, and improving farm profitability.Jerry Alford, Soils and Arable Farming Advisor at Soil AssociationJerry has experience in arable and mixed farming having run the family farm in Devon for 25 years. The farm was initially a dairy farm eventually converting to organic and being run as a beef, sheep and arable unit. In his current role, Jerry supports farmers through the Soil Association charity and Ocado's Agroecology at Scale programme. Jerry also contributes to the <a href="https://www.leguminose.eu/" title="https://www.leguminose.eu/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">LEGUMINOSE </a>Horizon-funded project, which explores science-based, farmer-led, and economically viable legume-based intercropping systems.Malcolm and Catherine Barrett, Tregooden FarmTregooden Farm in Cornwall is a 300-acre mixed arable and beef farm. It's been on a journey towards agroecology since Catherine and Malcolm Barrett took over its tenancy five years ago. Tregooden Farm is one of five demonstration farms taking part in the Agroecology at Scale Programme delivered by Soil Association and Ocado Retail. The Agroecology at Scale demonstration farms are part of a wider partnership between Ocado and Soil Association which has been established to help transform the way we eat, farm and care for our natural world.
