Burnout is a common and deeply challenging experience for many AuDHD adults, often shaped by chronic stress, masking and the pressure to function in environments that misunderstand neurodivergence.

In this insightful and thought-provoking workshop, Dr Tom Nicholson explores the root causes of neurodivergent burnout, shedding light on how the combined experiences of ADHD and autism can intensify exhaustion, overwhelm and emotional fatigue. We’ll explore how burnout can often present, and develop understanding of what we can do when we find ourselves struggling with burnout related experiences.

Drawing on a blend of academic research, clinical insights, and his own lived experience as a neurodivergent (AuDHD) academic, Dr Nicholson challenges us to rethink how we attempt to balance the competing demands of a high lifeload.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Understand why AuDHD adults are especially vulnerable to burnout
  • Explore how masking, sensory overload and chronic stress contribute to exhaustion
  • Recognise how burnout can present emotionally, physically and cognitively
  • Rethink rest and recovery through a neurodivergent lens
