Trans Safety and Wellbeing Webinar and Q&A

Trans Safety and Wellbeing Webinar and Q&A

Online event
Overview

A free webinar to raise awareness of how UK organisations and public bodies can support trans safety and wellbeing at this time

This live webinar is to raise awareness of the threats to trans safety and wellbeing at this time, and how UK organisations and public bodies can remain trans inclusive.

We will share the key findings from Andro & Eve’s new policy briefing which focuses on the safety and wellbeing of trans, non-binary & gender diverse people in South Yorkshire.

Trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in South Yorkshire face substantial inequalities in their safety, health, social wellbeing, and political participation. This policy briefing brings together the most recent evidence from peer-reviewed research, national statistics, local community organisations, and, most importantly, insights from trans and non binary people themselves.

These insights for trans and non-binary people were gathered through a series of trans artist-led creative workshops held in South Yorkshire for trans, non-binary and gender expansive adults and LGBTQ+ young people, through Andro & Eve’s project, We Contain Multitudes.

Their participation provided invaluable learning regarding how policy gaps might be addressed, so that the rights and interests of trans, non-binary and gender diverse people in our communities are better protected.

This briefing seeks to inform strategic action and shape policy direction to achieve meaningful and sustainable change in the lives of trans and non-binary people in South Yorkshire.

Since the Supreme Court Ruling on the definition of the terms ‘woman’ and ‘man’ in the Equality Act to refer only to biological sex as assigned at birth, we have seen flawed guidance from the EHRC published and then withdrawn, following significant pushback from MP’s businesses, the LGBTQ+ community and our allies. A new version of this statutory guidance will be issued imminently.

This webinar will cover;

  • How the rights and lives of trans, non binary and gender diverse people are being impacted by legislative changes.
  • How barriers to access healthcare, community spaces and a sense of safety are having negative impacts on health and wellbeing outcomes for the trans and non binary community in South Yorkshire.
  • The key recommendations from the Policy Briefing to support trans safety and wellbeing at this time
  • Signposting to further resources to support trans inclusion, equity and safety.

This session will include a presentation and time to ask questions.

Why are we running this webinar

In the UK, hard won LGBTQ+ rights are increasingly being rolled back. We are at a key moment for transgender equality. The Supreme Court ruling on 16th April 2025 has already had a wide reaching and devastating impact on the material reality of trans people’s lives in the UK.

We Contain Multitudes was a project conceived as a way to create spaces of safety and creativity for trans and non-binary people in South Yorkshire.

The stories, testimonies and creative submissions we received throughout the project made clear that fear is not an abstract concern for this community; it is a lived, daily reality shaped by a political and social environment that feels increasingly hostile.

Every person has the right to live safely, with dignity, and free of violence. We need those who hold power to be aware of how critical this moment is, and to take seriously their responsibility to uphold the rights of all citizens in the UK.

Access: This session will take place online via Zoom. A link will be sent out the day before the event. Auto captions will be enabled and it is supported by slides containing text and visuals. If you have any extra accessibility requirements, please send us a message.
